Crossing Guards

  • First Aid & Public Safety

Who We Are

This critical team plays a pivotal role in ensuring the safety of all Marketgoers near railroad crossings, as the Market is located adjacent to an active railroad track and bike path. As Crossing Guard volunteers, you will be stationed at the train track crossing adjacent to the Market footprint, where your vigilance and dedication are paramount.

In addition to monitoring traffic, volunteers on this team serve as both ambassadors and guardians, as many Market guests and passers-by rely on crossing guards for information and guidance. Your role is not only a safety job but also a social one, as you'll engage with guests, assist artists in crossing the tracks, and ensure everyone's experience at the Market is safe and enjoyable. Join us in upholding our commitment to safety and community at the International Folk Art Market!

What We Do

• Assist people, especially those from other countries who are unfamiliar with our traffic rules, in crossing the railroad tracks safely.

• Prevent people from crossing the tracks when a train is approaching or bikers are passing on the bike path.

TEAM NOTE: This team will NOT be required to stand in the street and direct traffic, this team is simply here to assist artists and guests who are unfamiliar with Santa Fe to safely wait for a crossing opportunity. Volunteers work outdoors, so bring a hat, reusable water bottle, and wear sunscreen. IFAM provides a safety vest and flashlight for volunteers.
